Biography
Tim
Tim is a painter based in East Syracuse, New York, working in acrylic, oil, and mixed media at architectural scale. His work spans nearly fifteen years and returns again and again to a single question: what lies beneath the surface we are shown?
His creative foundation began in photography, in his family's commercial studio and darkroom, where an image was made by eye and hand and you learned the discipline of waiting for it to reveal itself. That patience carried directly into painting.
His paintings are built slowly — often across three to seven years — through dozens of layers of paint, medium, foil, and erasure, with sanding back and rebuilding between them. The finished surfaces record everything they've been through, and hide most of it. Titles come last, once the painting has earned them.
Recurring concerns run across the body of work: memory, family, identity, grief, place, and time. Major works include Weight, Blanche, Dorathy, Laws, Jazz, Rabbit, and The Seasons.
A longer artist statement is on the statement page; the making of the work is on the process page.
